Used Mini Cars – The 1960’s Icon

As the title suggests, the used Mini from the 1960’s was a true icon. Sex, drugs and rock and roll were very much the groove back in the 60’s and if there was ever a vehicle that epitomised this era it was the used Mini. The car became so famous that is made appearances in the hit movie The Italian Job and, more recently, it was ever present in the heroic Aston Powers movies. What many people question though is WHY this was the case? For example, the Mini was not a car that was exceptionally designed, it wasn’t fast and it was most certainly not spacious – so how did it manage to become such an icon? Well this is a question for those who were active during the time of its release, but it is fair to say that fashion was very much different in the 60’s to what it is today. In fact, the Mini was so relevant that it became a worldwide phenomenon and people from different corners of Europe and beyond wanted a piece of the action. So the reality is that it doesn’t really matter about the WHY, the used Mini was what it was and is what it always will be – a fashion statement from the 1960’s. It had an average rate of performance and, by today’s standards, a lacklustre design; but the general public (and the British public in particular), just so happened to love it! Of course the Mini of today is very different to its predecessor but that is because the German giant BMW purchased the rights to re-build and re-design the old used MINI. With history very much behind the thinking of the new business venture, the gamble paid off for BMW because the new MINI is every bit as a fashion icon as its older version.

The new Mini is great. I wouldn’t buy the old one, but the BMW version is very tempting.
